CalvaClub 2024: The tradition reimagined

Once again this year, CalvaClub celebrated an enduring French tradition: the Café Calva. A challenge for bartenders, both simple and ambitious: to reinvent this popular custom, sometimes forgotten, but still very much alive in the minds of bar professionals.

For this fourth edition, 70 bartenders participated, and among them, 12 finalists from all corners of France gathered at the Manoir de l’Évêché in Lisieux for the grand finale.

A Contest merging creativity and heritage

CalvaClub is, above all, a celebration of Calvados.
The finalists kicked off their journey with a pottery workshop, where they crafted a mug as a tribute to tradition, before sampling local products and tasting the reinterpreted Café Calva by Colin Lach, the winner of the 2023 edition.

The evening continued with a casino game to determine the order of play for the 12 competitors.

Ever More Innovative Recipes

On the second day, the participants visited the Roger Groult estate to gain a deeper understanding of the art of Calvados, from the apple harvest in the orchards to the aging of the cider brandy.

After this delightful interlude, the competition officially began. In ten minutes, each finalist had to prepare six identical cocktails, representing their vision of the traditional Café Calva.
Julien Achille won the 2024 edition with his cocktail "Petit goût amer", praised for its tribute to the Normandy terroir.

Once again, CalvaClub highlighted the creativity of bartenders and the heritage of Calvados. This competition has become a must-attend event to celebrate the revival of this spirit.
